To me, painting is a necessary act of expression and a physical need for freedom in thinking and action.
The American abstract expressionists were convinced that meaningful, honest painting was best achieved through improvisation. Manipulation of paint as I respond to the movement and effects obtained by using various materials and techniques allows my eyes, brain and hands to follow the emerging images and colour combinations on canvas. Then the painting begins.
Inspiration comes from images formed in my imagination by extensive reading, studying works of art and various contemporary trends, observing the all encompassing variations in the quality of light in landscapes, studying fluid dynamics, live situations, random words.
The art world, as I experience it, gives me the sentiment of courage to be different within it, greatly agreeing with my upbringing in a cosmopolitan city, where people of various nationalities and creeds work and enjoy life in harmony.
Therefor, I dedicate this virtual gallery to my city of birth, European Capital of Culture 2023.
