ARTIST PRESENTATION

Ecaterina Schiwago, visual artist, specialization painting, Master graduate of the Faculty of Arts and Design of the Western University Timişoara, is member of the Association of Fine Artists in Romania - Timişoara Branch.
Since 2007, I took part on numerous national collective und group exhibitions and had some personal exhibitions,

Within the artistic procedures, I approach different themes by making painting series, expecting some occasional works with singular subject.
Of the singular works I would like to mention "Vibrations in selenian space", exhibited at the Art Lounge 2015 at the Museum of Arts Timisoara, belonging to the museum, being selected at the painting section.
Of the themes/subjects approached and developed within some series of works, I would remind:
-Singing in two worlds, is a series in which I operate with three categories of symbols, as elements of plastic language:
-specific elements of music - musical instruments, especially the guitar,
-the canary bird - specific for text of the song Canarul, written by my husband, under the name of Victor Şuvagău, then, for the legendary musical band Phoenix and,
- spiritual elements-angels and crosses, imagined by his my contemplation of the spiritual space, following the passing away of my dear Victor Schiwago.
-Sacred, a narrower series in which the theme of the works is defined by the title of the series. The works present semi-abstract, semi-figurative and abstract images, in which symbols specific to the sacred and spiritual are inserted - angels. In my approach, I was influenced by places, events and experiences in my personal life.
-Quo vadis, a subject, where the essence is defined by the title of the series itself and which is presented in the exhibition at this very place under the same title. The subject catches the actual state people searching for their place and direction to go to - WHERETO, expressed by moving persons. This "Whereto" is generated not by a random choice but a state compulsion, a state of suffer expressed for example in on of the works by the crying child in the foreground of the construction of the plastic space. In other works the suffering is reproduced by the roughness of the faces and the cold colours used. inserted into the composition symbolic elements that can be connected to a certain state and fact: rail tracks lead ou thoughts to a direction, a movement; the fence, sending us to a compulsion and the try to get over it, a risk, a search. The story unfolds in several works, where I broke the monotony by going from figurative style approaches to abstract approaches, from monochromies to polychromies. Although I have been inspired, as presented, by the actual social events, I refers to the idea as well, that the migration and search itself tok place from ancient times (banishment of St. Peter) lasting in time as result of different social, historical, natural or cultural factors, but I intend to catch with these works a tiny part of what Quo vadis means, by the paintings made.
-The abstract nature, the subject is given by the natural elements, the places visited, the images encountered, the interpretation of the colors, the associations of elements from different places, the associations between the abstract and the semi-confessional approach, sometimes the total simplification .
-Under the Eye of the Goddess, where the starting point is the archetype and the impact of the peacock in different cultures, by this divine power (kindness, love, compassion) actually assigned in the Hindu and Asian culture to the richness of the feathers, and majesty, developing a story where the subject is placed in different contexts receiving thus different meanings;
-From Vesuvius to Pompeii, the subject is expressed by the title itself, I present a story in several acts, represented by works complementing each other and catching states of nature, human suffering, disaster, rebirth of life, in some works operating with plastic symbols and material (some of the works exhibited in 2016- Exhibition "Noi 5" (We 5);
-Standing, where the subject is the chair, positioned in different contexts, beside the plastic image wants to transmit a state: sitting for contemplation, suspended, frozen etc.
-Music and dance, catches in some works cultural traditions, in others the joy and dynamics of the characters and the chromatic richness of the clothing.
-Memory fragment, (the name of a personal exhibition in 2015), where the direction is the visual re-signification of an artefact, of an emblematic element - the hat of my grandfather that becomes the plastic construction sign of the space;
-The story of receptables, reporting myself to the shape of the prehistoric receptable, the household object enriched or simplified in chromatic versions;

Any of the series presented remain open and I intend to enrich them by new works.

PREZENTARE ARTIST

- elemente spirituale-îngeri și cruci, imaginate prin contemplarea mea asupra spațiului spiritual, în urma trecerii în neființă a dragului meu Victor Schiwago;
-Sub ochiul Zeitei, este denumirea seriei de lucrari in care puctul de plecare il constitue simbolul arhetipal si impactul Paunului in cultura diferitelor popoare, ca de exemplu puterea divina atribuita in cultura hindusa si asiatica, resemnificata prin bunatate, frumusete, iubire, compasiune. Atrasa de bogatia apanajului in fapt, de majestuozitatea acestei pasari, am dezvoltat o poveste in care subiectul este amplasat in contexte diferite si primeste diferite valente;
-De la Vezuviu la Pompei, subiectul fiind exprimat insasi de titlu, prezint o poveste in mai multe acte, reprezentate de lucrari in care fiecare vine in completarea celeilalte si surpride stari ale naturii, a suferntei umane, a dezastrului, a renasterii vietii, in unele lucrari operand cu simboluri plastice si cu materie (parte din lucrari expuse in 2016- Expozitia „Noi 5”;

-Muzica si dansul, surprinde in unele lucrari traditii culturale, in altele veselia, dinamica personajelor, bogatia cromatica a vesmintelor.
-Stand, in care subiectul este scaunul si care amplasat in diferite contexte care pe langa imaginea plastica vrea sa transmita o stare, asezat pentru contemplare, suspendat, inghetat,etc...
-Fragment de memorie, (titlul unei expozitii personale in 2015), in care directia este de resemnificare vizuala a unui artefact, a unui element emblema-palaria bunicului si care devine insemnul plastic de constructie a spatiului;
-Povestea vaselor, in care ma raportez la forma vasului preistoric, a obiectului casnic imbogatit sau simlificat in variante cromatice
